Job summary

Chubb Life is seeking a Staff or Principal Software Engineer to own end-to-end technical architecture for one or more markets in Asia. This senior IC role writes production code, raises engineering standards, and drives improvements across the software lifecycle.

The role focuses on Java and JavaScript stacks, with mentoring responsibilities and emphasis on scalable, secure, and testable designs across customer policies, agent portals, payments, and reporting systems.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
• 6+ years’ experience in software engineering roles, with at least two years in a senior technical leadership capacity.
• Experience shipping code in production across front end, servers, core systems, and integration layers.
• Experience developing web applications in production in a public cloud environment.
• Expertise in one or more server-side languages (Java, JavaScript/TypeScript, Python, Ruby, Go, C#, Rust).
• Strong understanding of Agile software engineering practices and teamwork.
• Experience investigating and solving production problems on-prem and in the cloud.
• Experience using workflow management software (Jira, ServiceNow, BMC).
• Familiarity with Linux servers, containerization and orchestration, and toolchains.
• Excellent communication skills in English; native-language proficiency for applicable markets.

Responsibilities

• Technical Leadership & Domain Architecture: own and evolve system architecture across markets.
• Write high-quality application code in critical areas, mentor engineers, and promote best practices.
• Lead design and planning with stakeholders to balance local needs with platform capabilities.
• Strengthen testing and quality through unit, functional, and integration tests and CI/CD improvements.
• Improve CI/CD pipelines, development environments, and tooling to support 12-factor app principles in public clouds.
• Foster continuous learning and technical excellence through code reviews and experimentation.
• Cross-stack problem solving: resolve complex production and performance issues across the stack.
• Bridge global engineering direction with local market realities and implement integrations and process changes.
