Job summary

Chubb External in Hong Kong is seeking a Senior Manager – Underwriting to lead a high-value life insurance underwriting team, drive strategy, and safeguard portfolio profitability. You will mentor staff, govern complex risk assessments, and partner with actuarial, product, sales, and compliance teams.

You will shape underwriting policies, monitor performance, and communicate insights to senior leadership while ensuring regulatory compliance and program governance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in business, medicine, or related field.
• Professional underwriting qualification preferred (e.g., FLMI, ALU, DipCII, or equivalent).
• 10–15 years of underwriting experience in life insurance.
• 3–5 years in a team leadership or senior managerial underwriting role.
• Strong knowledge of underwriting principles and practices.
• Experience with reinsurance arrangements is an advantage.

Responsibilities

• Lead, mentor, and develop the underwriting team to achieve performance goals.
• Oversee underwriting of complex, high-value life insurance applications.
• Develop, implement, and review underwriting policies and guidelines.
• Monitor portfolio performance and manage risk exposure.
• Review and approve decisions above delegated authority thresholds.
• Collaborate with Actuarial, Product Development, Sales, Claims, and Compliance.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and governance standards.
• Drive adoption of new underwriting tools, technologies, and analytics.
• Prepare management information reports and portfolio insights for leadership.
• Manage external relationships with reinsurers, brokers, and distribution partners.
• Contribute to product development initiatives and feasibility assessments.
• Handle escalated queries and complex risk assessments with sound judgment.
• Represent underwriting in planning, strategy, and regulatory discussions.
