Job description

Plan and deliver Science lessons in line with the Cambridge Primary Science curriculum, covering age-appropriate areas of Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Earth Science.

Use inquiry-based, hands-on, and play-oriented strategies to guide young learners in constructing scientific concepts through observation, questioning, and experimentation.

Laboratory and Practical Support:

Prepare laboratory equipment, materials, and resources, and guide students in safe, well-structured scientific inquiry during practical lessons.

Help maintain order and an equipment inventory in the classroom and practical areas, cleaning and safely storing apparatus after lessons.

Support the implementation of safety procedures for experiments and outdoor inquiry, reminding and supervising students to follow safety rules.

Assessment and Feedback:

Use primarily formative assessment, recording progress through observation, practical performance, portfolios, and oral presentations, with timely and constructive feedback.

Track student achievement data, identify learning gaps, and adjust teaching; prepare students appropriately for external assessments or transition to secondary school.

Pastoral Care and Behaviour Management:

Care for young learners' emotional, social, and physical safety and wellbeing with warmth and patience, fostering a safe, respectful, and inclusive classroom climate.

Establish clear routines and positive behaviour guidance, modelling the confidence, independence, and good habits you nurture in students.

Communication and Collaboration:

Maintain frequent, timely, and respectful communication with parents, regularly reporting learning progress, inquiry activities, and growth highlights.

Collaborate closely with homeroom teachers, Science faculty colleagues, and the leadership team to support students' holistic development.

Professional Development and Quality Assurance:

Participate in the school's evaluation and faculty professional learning as a reflective practitioner, continuously improving primary Science teaching quality.

Seek professional growth through in-school or external professional training, professional reading, and workshops to build expertise in early-years and primary Science pedagogy.

Child Safeguarding:

Uphold the school's child safeguarding policy and report any related concerns to the appropriate person without delay.

Qualifications and Requirements:

Academic and Language Background:

Bachelor's degree in Education, Science, Life Sciences, or a related field required; a Master's in Primary Education or Science Education preferred.

Native or near-native fluency in English (the primary language of Science instruction), with good spoken and written Mandarin Chinese preferred for local communication.

Professional Qualifications and Experience:

Relevant teaching certification (e.g. PGDE / PGCE) required; experience in inquiry-based or practical teaching preferred.

2+ years of primary Science teaching experience (3+ years preferred); familiarity with international or bilingual curricula preferred.

Skills and Attributes:

Strong subject knowledge in Science, classroom management, and differentiated-instruction skills for young learners.

Caring, patient, and creative, able to spark children's curiosity and inquiry spirit through lively, encouraging teaching.

Familiarity with basic educational technology and interactive teaching tools, with the ability to support a digital learning environment; basic laboratory safety and apparatus-handling knowledge is preferred.
