Job description

An established Hong Kong event-driven hedge fund is hiring a hands-on operations person who can also build. Deliberately lean team, direct line to a senior principal, and a real mandate to change how the platform works.

The role
  • Run the daily operational workflow - trade booking, corporate actions, swap shells, allocation across fund vehicles, month-end close.
  • Cover the financing side: borrows, locates, margin and collateral.
  • Find the manual processes, specify the automation, and ship it - working with the firm's system provider and in-house developers.
  • Report directly to a senior principal. No layers, and no queue to get something done.
  • The same strategy runs through several fund vehicles with different eligibility rules, so positions have to be expressed synthetically and allocated consistently across all of them. The operational problems here are genuinely non-trivial.
Requirements
  • Three to ten years since graduation, with real buy-side operations or middle-office
  • time - AVP-to-VP pricing, junior end in scope
  • Time at a small fund, where you covered several functions because the team was small. Someone who owned one narrow process at a large shop is not the shape.
  • Working knowledge of the trade lifecycle and portfolio operations, plus financing, margin, borrows and locates.
  • Python and/or VBA, and fluency using AI tools to write and iterate on code. This is about knowing what to build, not about syntax.
  • A strong quantitative degree - mathematics, statistics, actuarial science, computer science or financial engineering - from a good university.
  • The appetite for a roughly ten-hour day as the norm rather than the exception, and for finding your own problems to fix without being asked.
  • Advantages, not requirements: corporate actions depth event-driven, merger arbitrage or ECM exposure Enfusion, Eze, Bloomberg AIM, Charles River or Advent Geneva fund-administrator interface experience Cantonese or Mandarin SFC Type 9 licensable.
Why apply
  • Competitive package
  • A direct reporting line to a senior principal, at a firm small enough that what you build is visible immediately.
  • A genuine automation remit. You are hired to improve the platform, not to keep it running.
  • Unusual breadth for the level: trade booking, month-end, financing, systems, vendors and multi-vehicle fund structures in one seat.
  • A firm on a real growth path, with the operating platform being built out as it scales.
