About the Role
This role sits within the Club's digital transformation programme, known internally as AOP, which aims to accelerate platform, product, people, performance and potential through innovation and delivery excellence. The programme's work spans product, technology, operations, delivery and change, creating next-generation experiences and strengthening the capabilities that support the Club's future growth. The role holder owns a multi-squad or programme-level backlog together with the detailed definition of product and system behaviour, and drives cross-team delivery execution, quality and post-launch iteration. The role works closely with engineering leads, product managers, QA, vendors and business-as-usual teams, and includes an optional coaching contribution to junior product owners.
Key Responsibilities
- Own a multi-squad or programme-level backlog aligned with PM strategy and enterprise constraints, breaking complex product intent into phased, buildable slices with clear user stories, acceptance criteria and edge-case logic.
- Maintain a dependency-aware view of increments to ensure two-sprint readiness across squads, and make autonomous day-to-day decisions on scope, sequencing and prioritisation to keep delivery moving.
- Support prioritisation and effort sizing with squads, engineering leads and PMs, producing consistent effort estimates and trade-off analyses and providing data-backed options covering cost, risk, timeline and operational impact.
- Translate ambiguous or multi-system product intent into clear, unambiguous specifications covering integrations, APIs, pricing engines, market-creation logic, legacy platforms, data flows and operational scenarios.
- Acting as the single owner of detailed requirements with no BA handoff and incorporating compliance, responsible gambling, security and operational considerations.
- Lead refinement and planning for multiple squads, ensuring engineering has clarity on behaviour and rules, and own the integrated delivery plan and dependency resolution across squads.
- Resolve ambiguity across teams without escalation and identify and remove cross-team blockers, technical sequencing issues and operational constraints.
- Accept completed increments and ensure they meet the intended UX and system rules, and provide go/no-go recommendations for cross-squad releases based on risk and operational readiness, escalating strategic scope changes to the PM.
- Escalate and coordinate with vendor partners and BAU owners when cross-squad resolution is not possible or solutioning becomes highly complex, acting as escalation owner to drive vendor remediation, contract-level decisions or BAU process changes.
- And ensure vendor-delivered components and BAU operational processes are validated with escalation paths defined and tested before release.
- Partner with QA to define comprehensive test coverage including negative paths and regulatory edge cases, validate end-to-end functionality across multiple integrated systems during QA, UAT and pre-production checks, and ensure operational readiness across Channels, Trading Operations and Customer groups.
- Support the PM and business users in launch planning, training and risk mitigation, and independently engage stakeholders across Compliance, Legal, Risk, Security, Trading and Operations to embed regulatory and operational constraints early in design and delivery.
- Analyse launch performance using data and customer behaviour insights, identify systemic issues and opportunities for iteration, own defect triage and behaviour clarification for cross-team production issues, and feed improvements back into the backlog.
- Coach junior product owners on story quality, acceptance criteria structure, backlog discipline, stakeholder handling and delivery flow, and contribute to improving delivery standards, patterns and operating models across the organisation.
