Job description

This is the senior technical role behind the application and integration landscape that runs Atlantic Gate’s forwarding operations. You will own the core transport, regional TMS and finance applications, together with the integration and data platforms, from an engineering and architecture angle, keeping them stable, secure and maintainable while raising the technical standard of how changes are built, tested and released.

You will lead the development team behind the company’s core transport and business applications and set the technical direction for the stack, staying close enough to the code, the databases and the release pipeline to make sound decisions. The product owners, the integration and master data lead and the data and analytics lead align their delivery to this role. Functional prioritization sits with the product owners; your accountability is technical design, engineering quality and the reliability of what goes into production.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Own the technical landscape of the core transport applications, regional TMS platforms and the finance system, including application architecture, technical debt and lifecycle decisions.
  • Lead the development team, set engineering standards and hold the line on code quality, secure‑by‑design development, peer review and technical documentation.
  • Own application lifecycle management and DevOps practice, including source control, build and release pipelines, environment management and controlled deployment into production.
  • Own QA and test discipline on the technical side, including automated testing where it pays off, regression coverage, release readiness and rollback planning.
  • Own application performance, availability, monitoring, logging and database health, and drive root cause analysis on recurring technical issues.
  • Deliver the technical build of API and EDI connectivity against the integration standards set by the integration stream, working with internal teams, partners, customers and carriers.
  • Translate the priorities agreed with the TMS and ERP product owners into a technically sound backlog, with realistic estimates and clear delivery sequencing.
  • Act as the senior technical counterpart on TMS and ERP modernization, reviewing designs, data migration approaches and vendor solutions.
  • Manage development and application vendors against technical scope, quality gates and delivery commitments.
  • Mentors the application support analysts in the region and lift the technical depth and ownership of second- and third-line support.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
  • Seven years or more in software engineering, application development or technical delivery leadership, ideally in logistics, freight forwarding or a comparable operational business.
  • A genuine engineering background, with the credibility to review architecture, code and database design rather than only manage delivery from a distance.
  • Proven experience leading a development team, including engineering standards, peer review, estimation, technical mentoring and production support readiness.
  • Strong command of application lifecycle management, DevOps tooling, CI and CD pipelines, environment and release management, and test automation.
  • Solid knowledge of relational databases, application performance tuning, monitoring and troubleshooting in production environments.
  • Hands‑on experience implementing API and EDI connectivity in a logistics or forwarding environment.
  • Working knowledge of transport management platforms, ideally including in‑house or highly customized operational applications.
  • Ability to operate effectively across regions and time zones, with the capacity to communicate technical constraints clearly to business stakeholders.
  • Fluent English. Cantonese or Mandarin is a strong advantage.
DESIRABLE SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
  • Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology or another relevant technical field.
  • Technical certifications in cloud platforms, development frameworks, secure coding or DevOps tooling are valued.
  • Experience modernizing legacy applications, refactoring monolithic systems or migrating workloads to the cloud.
  • Exposure to secure software delivery, code scanning, vulnerability management and infrastructure‑as‑code practices.
  • Familiarity with quote‑to‑cash, billing or operational finance processes in a forwarding context, enough to understand what the code is doing for the business.
SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE
  • Technically strong, hands‑on and credible with engineers, architects and vendors.
  • Disciplined about quality, security and maintainability, and willing to challenge shortcuts under delivery pressure.
  • Pragmatic enough to keep operations running while steadily reducing technical debt.
