Job summary

SPTel Pte Ltd in Hong Kong is seeking a skilled Network Design and Planning professional to design, coordinate, and implement passive fiber optic networks. You will develop routes, conduct site surveys, and document using GIS/AutoCAD while coordinating with engineers and contractors for on-time delivery.

Qualifications

• Diploma or higher in Engineering, Telecommunication, Computer Science, or related field.
• 1–3 years of fiber optic network planning and design experience.
• Knowledge of PON, FTTx, and civil engineering concepts is preferred.
• Familiarity with site acquisition and deployment of telco facilities is advantageous.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with attention to detail.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for project and stakeholder management.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and coordinate passive fiber optic network implementations.

Job Description

Network Design and Planning

• Responsible for designing, developing, and coordinating the implementation of passive fiber optic networks


• Develop detailed plans and optimal routes for fiberoptic cable deployment including duct and manhole infrastructure

Site Surveying and Feasibility

• Conduct site surveys and feasibility studies to assess potential network routes, identify obstacles, and recommend the most economical solutions

Documentation and Mapping

• Create and maintain accurate, detailed documentation, schematics, and \"as-built\" drawings using Geographical Information Systems (GIS), AutoCAD, or similar software

Cost Estimation and Budgeting

• Forecast Capital Expenditures (CAPEX) and Operating Expenditures (OPEX), estimate project costs, and manage resources to ensure projects are completed within budget

Collaboration and Coordination

• Liaise and collaborate with internal engineering, design, and construction teams, as well as external stakeholders including government agencies, private developers, and contractors, to ensure smooth project execution

Compliance and Standards

• Ensure all network plans and installations comply with relevant industry standards, regulations, and safety requirements


• Complete and submit all applications and documents as requested by building owners before approval is granted to start work

Capacity Planning

• Analyze current and future network performance data and subscriber demands to plan for network expansion and necessary upgrades, ensuring scalability and future-proofing of the infrastructure

Problem Solving

• Identify and troubleshoot issues that arise during the planning and installation phases, providing technical guidance to resolve complex problems

Others

• Provide standby support after office hours when needed


• Any other ad-hoc duties as assigned by superior from time to time

Requirements

• Diploma in Engineering, Telecommunication, Computer Science, or a related field


• At least 1-3 year of working experience in fiber optic network planning and design, and passive infrastructure operations (inside or outside plant operations)


• Good understanding of fiber optic engineering principles, passive optical network (PON) technologies, FTTx methodologies, and civil engineering


• Familiar with site acquisition and deployment of telco’s facilities, assets and resources


• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking abilities to design efficient and reliable network layouts


• Strong communication and interpersonal skills for effective project and stakeholder management and teamwork


• Ability to work independently and collaboratively with contractors, colleagues and building management team /developers


• Independent, self-driven, highly customer focused and able to work under high-pressure environment especially during emergency restoration of telecommunications services


• Good communication skills, keen to learn and a team player


• Applicants with class 3 driving license will have an added advantage
