Gough Recruitment (Hong Kong) Pty Limited's client seeks a Design Manager to lead design for hyperscale data centre projects in Hong Kong. This hands-on, client-facing role manages the full design lifecycle from appointing consultants through commissioning and IST.

Qualifications

• Degree in Civil/Structural or MEP Engineering, or Architecture (equivalent experience accepted).
• Chartered or professionally registered status preferred.
• Experience across full project lifecycle from planning to IST.

Responsibilities

• Issue RFPs to consultants and assess bids.
• Manage the design schedule to align with the construction tender and overall programme.
• Ensure design compliance with global and regional design standards; manage deviations through the formal approval process.
• Act as technical manager for A/E and commissioning teams; review commissioning plans and test scripts.
• Attend OAC meetings, site tours and Level 4/5 commissioning activities.
• Contribute to BIM-based delivery and design standards.

Our client is a specialist project and construction management firm delivering complex, large-scale developments across Southeast Asia.

With a strong and growing data centre pipeline, they are expanding their design team and looking for a Design Manager to support hyperscale data centre projects in Hong Kong.

This is a hands-on, client-facing role where you will manage the full design lifecycle of data centre projects — from appointing consultants through to commissioning and Integrated Systems Testing (IST).

What You'll Do

• Issue RFPs to third-party consultants; review, level bids and make award recommendations
• Review the Basis of Design and all subsequent drawing and document issues
• Manage the design schedule to align with the construction tender and overall programme
• Ensure design compliance with global and regional design standards; manage deviations through the formal approval process
• Serve as the technical manager for third-party A/E and commissioning teams; review commissioning plans and test scripts
• Review OFCI equipment submittals and support procurement decisions
• Act as the primary customer contact on build-to-suit projects
• Attend OAC meetings, site tours and Level 4/5 commissioning activities
• Manage gating process (G0–G2) duties including budgets, contracts, change orders and invoicing
• Review construction RFIs and close out technical submittals
• Contribute to design standards, lessons learned and BIM-based delivery

What You'll Need

• Degree in Civil/Structural or MEP Engineering, or Architecture (equivalent experience considered)

• Familiar with the full project life cycle: planning, design, permitting, construction, commissioning through to IST
