Job summary

Kody is hiring a Senior Backend Engineer in Hong Kong to design and scale systems powering payments, settlements, and financial APIs. You will work on gateways, settlement engines, and mobile POS integrations in a fast-growing fintech.

Join a startup-like yet scaling company with a modern tech stack: Kotlin, Kafka, Kubernetes, Redis, PostgreSQL, and cloud-native frameworks. English fluency is essential, and fintech experience is a plus.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of backend software development experience (Kotlin or Java).
• Strong microservices, cloud deployment (AWS/GCP), and CI/CD (GitHub Actions).
• Proficiency with SQL/NoSQL databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL, Redis).
• Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, and event-driven systems (Kafka).
• APIs (REST, gRPC) and version control (GitHub).
• Agile development processes; English fluency; fintech/payments background a plus.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain backend services and APIs (REST/gRPC).
• Contribute to backend architecture for reliability and scalability.
• Debug, troubleshoot, and optimise performance in production systems.

Your Role

As a Senior Backend Engineer, you’ll be at the heart of our platform designing and scaling systems that power Kody’s products, from payment gateways and settlement systems to mobile POS integrations and financial service APIs.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain backend services and APIs (REST/gRPC)
• Contribute to backend architecture and ensure system reliability and scalability
• Debug, troubleshoot, and optimise performance in production systems
• Collaborate with product, QA, and frontend teams to deliver robust, maintainable solutions
• Write clean, efficient, and well-tested code
• Stay current with modern backend and cloud technologies

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in backend software development (Kotlin or Java)
• Strong understanding of microservices, cloud deployment (AWS/GCP), and CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions)
• Proficiency in SQL/NoSQL databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL, Redis)
• Familiar with Docker, Kubernetes, and event-driven systems (Kafka)
• Solid understanding of APIs (REST, gRPC) and version control (GitHub)
• Familiarity with agile development processes
• Fluent in English (Mandarin or Cantonese a plus)
• Fintech, payment, or settlement background is a plus
