Job Purpose
The core purpose of this role is to support research related work in the Strategic Planning and Humanitarian Diplomacy (SPHD) department. S/he supports the Manager and Head of SPHD to ensure effective implementation of the action plan to achieve evidence-based practice and results-based management in the Hong Kong Red Cross, ultimately in delivering its humanitarian services to fulfill its vision and mission.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify and propose research topics that align with corporate strategic goals, and provide targeted research support to facilitate strategic planning and implementation
- Design, execute, and oversee corporate-level research and research projects to support service development, innovation, and advocacy.
- Develop robust research frameworks and analyze data for SPHD-led pilot projects to rigorously test service models and extract critical new knowledge.
- Act as a subject matter expert, providing professional consultancy support and guidance to various departments in conducting their own research and evaluations.
- Drive the adoption of EBP in service development by systematically capturing, sharing, and maintaining institutional knowledge and best practices across internal platforms.
- Design and deliver targeted training and sharing sessions to equip staff with practical EBP and research skills, specifically focusing on research design, data collection tool development, and data analysis.
- Supervise, coach, and mentor junior staff and team members in research methodologies, data management, and analytical work to foster professional growth.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Social Sciences, Public Policy, Statistics, Public Health, Social Work, or a related discipline.
- A minimum of 2 years of solid experience in social services or social policy research, preferably within the NGO, humanitarian, or public sector
- Proficiency in both qualitative and quantitative research methodologies is a must
- Proven ability to analyze complex data and utilize statistical software, coupled with required intermediate-level proficiency in Python. Experience with GIS is a strong advantage.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills.
- Strong presentation and training skills, with the ability to translate complex data into accessible insights for non-technical staff.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and Chinese
- Mature and self-motivated, capable of working independently while also being an excellent team player.
- Highly flexible and resilient, with the proven ability to work effectively under pressure, manage stress, and adapt to changing priorities.
- Strong alignment with humanitarian values and the fundamental principles of the Red Cross Red Crescent Movement.
