Job summary

Hong Kong Baptist University is seeking an Assistant Engineer (Operation Maintenance Services) to lead a frontline team and supervise contractors for operation and maintenance of building services across all university campuses. The role requires hands-on experience with E&M systems, familiarity with statutory requirements, and a strong command of both English and Chinese.

The appointment is a fixed-term contract with potential renewal based on performance and funding.

Qualifications

• Minimum eight years’ relevant post-qualification experience in building services
• Familiar with statutory requirements and Codes of Practice
• Valid Registered Electrical Worker Grade A or above
• Knowledge of building services engineering and related design, installation, operation and maintenance
• Hands-on experience in operation and maintenance of building services and systems
• Experience with electrical repair and maintenance preferred
• Good communication and presentation to capture user requirements
• Good command of English and Chinese (spoken and written)

Responsibilities

• Take part in day-to-day E&M plant operations including routine maintenance and emergency repair
• Perform technical tasks related to design, installation, operation and maintenance of building services
• Prepare E&M routine and preventive maintenance plans and supervise sites
• Manage system breakdowns to minimize downtime and impact
• Inspect sites for repair, fitting-out, upgrade and improvement works
• Liaise with end users and contractors on installation and maintenance contracts
• Monitor system performance and plant efficiency
• Ensure equipment and facilities are serviced in good condition
• Perform shift and emergency duties
• Assist in ad hoc tasks as assigned

BUILDING SERVICES AND SYSTEMS SECTION

Assistant Engineer (Operation Maintenance Services) (26270220)

The appointee will be a member of the Building Services and Systems in Estates Office and responsible for leading a team of frontline staff and managing contractors to perform the operation and maintenance of building services and fitting-out projects on all campuses of the University.

Responsibilities:

• Take part in the day-to-day electrical and mechanical (E&M) plant operations including routine maintenance, emergency repair and resume the failure part in case of system breakdown;
• Perform technical tasks, either independently or under the direction of a qualified engineer, contributory to design, installation, operation, maintenance and repair of building services systems and equipment;
• Prepare for E&M routine and preventive maintenance plans and perform regular site supervision;
• Manage system breakdown to minimise the downtime and impact on operations;
• Site inspection for the building services repair works, fitting-out works, upgrade and improvement works for enhancing the existing system performance, efficiency and sustainability;
• Liaise with end users and contractors in connection with building services installation works, fitting out projects and maintenance contracts;
• Monitor the system performance as well as the plant efficiency;
• Ensure the equipment, system and facilities are serviced and maintained in good conditions;
• Perform shift/emergency duties; and
• Assist in ad hoc tasks and undertake other duties as assigned by seniors.

Requirements:

• Completed secondary education or specialised vocational training or above with a minimum of eight years’ relevant post-qualification experience in building services or a higher diploma with substantial years of relevant experience will also be considered;
• Familiar with statutory requirements and Codes of Practice;
• Possession of a valid Registered Electrical Worker Grade A or above;
• Knowledge of building services engineering and associated work experience in design, installation, operation and maintenance;
• Hands-on experience in operation and maintenance of building services and systems;
• Previous experience in electrical repair and maintenance is highly preferred;
• Good communication, interpersonal and presentation to ensure the user requirements are properly captured; and
• Good command of both spoken and written English and Chinese.

The initial appointment will be made on a fixed-term contract of two years. Re-appointment thereafter is subject toperformance review,mutual agreement and availability of funding.

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
