Senior Recovery Nurse (Band 6) – Ophthalmology Theatres

Location: Eye Treatment Centre, Whipps Cross Hospital

We are looking for a passionate, dedicated Senior Recovery Nurse to join our Ophthalmology Theatres team. If you’re a registered nurse with recovery experience, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to high-quality patient care, we want to hear from you!

• Lead and coach nursing staff
• Deliver exceptional care in a fast-paced theatre environment
• Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams
• Maintain the highest standards of care for our patients

• Establish, lead and maintain high standards of pre-/peri- and post-operative clinical care
• Coordinate clinical activities and develop clinical expertise through leadership
• Undertake teaching and training of both trained and untrained staff
• Develop management skills and undertake management duties as directed by the Senior Sister
• Participate on-call for the unit

• Essential: NMC Registered Nurse
• Desirable: Post-registration recovery or anaesthetic course or Leadership qualification

• Essential: Substantial Band 5 experience in recovery and/or anaesthetics
• Desirable: Previous Band 6 experience; Ophthalmic recovery experience; involvement in service improvement projects

• Essential: Sound knowledge of post-anaesthetic care, airway management, and emergency protocols; understanding of clinical governance, patient safety, and NMC professional standards
• Desirable: Awareness of quality improvement, audit, and service development processes; knowledge of leadership principles and supporting staff in practice

• Essential: Ability to assess, plan, deliver and evaluate safe, evidence-based care in the recovery setting; strong communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively within the multidisciplinary team
• Desirable: Leadership and delegation skills to support, supervise and motivate junior staff; skills in audit, teaching, or quality improvement projects

• Essential: Commitment to ongoing professional development and reflective practice; flexible and adaptable to meet the needs of the service
• Desirable: Willingness to undertake further specialist training or leadership courses; engagement in wider trust initiatives (e.g., EDI, wellbeing, or staff networks)
