Job Title: Humanities Teacher

Location: Belmont Secondary School, Rossendale, Lancashire

Salary: up to £35,000 depending on experience (not pro rata)

Hours: 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday

Contract:Permanent, Term Time only

As part of our continued growth, we are looking for an experienced and passionate Humanities Teacher to join our fantastic team at Belmont School, located in the scenic surroundings of Rossendale, Lancashire.

About the role

As a Humanities Teacher, you will take a creative and structured approach to teaching your subject(s), planning lessons that meet each pupil’s individual learning needs and maximise achievement. This role offers a unique opportunity to lead the development of a Key Stage4 examination pathway, which will be implemented from September 2026—a key milestone in the school’s academic growth.

You will be supported by a committed senior leadership team and work collaboratively with other staff to deliver an engaging and progressive curriculum that develops pupils’ knowledge, skills and confidence.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Delivering high-quality Humanities lessons that are tailored to pupils’ needs and aligned with the school curriculum
  • Playing a central role in shaping and implementing the KS4 Humanities examination offer
  • Creating a positive, inclusive classroom environment that supports learning and emotional regulation
  • Upholding the school’s safeguarding standards and professional expectations
  • Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team to support pupils with SEMH and complex needs
  • Taking a flexible, proactive approach to teaching and learning

Essential Criteria:

  • QTS and qualifications and/or experience in Humanities (e.g. History, Geography, RE)
  • A firm belief that every pupil can achieve and deserves a life of choice and opportunity
  • Proven ability to work successfully with pupils with challenging behaviour
  • Strong classroom management and lesson planning skills
  • Commitment to safeguarding and child welfare
  • Ability to adapt in a fast-paced, changing environment
  • A positive team player with high expectations of self and others
  • Willingness to undertake relevant training and development

Desirable

  • Experience of working with young people from challenging backgrounds
  • Background in SEMH, ASC or similar specialist settings
  • Evidence of driving improvements in pupil outcomes
  • Full UK Driving Licence
