You can embrace your curiosity in a culture that celebrates new ideas and diverse perspectives. You can experience a world of opportunity and the chance to shape a career as unique as you.

A little more about your role…

Based in our Belgium - Brussels Office.

WSP is at the forefront of providing policy and economic advisory services to the public and private sector. As a market leader in chemicals and water policy and a significant player in industrial emissions, air quality, circular economy, taxonomy and biodiversity we are looking to become the number one source of policy and economics expertise across the EU and UK in all major environmental fields. Working with us will bring you into contact with policy makers at the highest level and your input will contribute to protecting and improving the environment for millions of people across multiple countries. Our work with the likes of national Governments, EU institutions and agencies, international bodies like the United Nations and World Bank, alongside industry associations and major global companies stretches our positive influence around the world.

WSPs policy and economics team works alongside our broader global advisory services, bringing together a worldwide community of environmental specialists numbering more than 73,000 people over more than 50 countries. Our Belgium team is looking to increase our presence in the heart of EU policy making. Located in the heart of Brussels, our multi-disciplinary team will look to involve you in EU projects from day one whilst providing you with training, career development and personal support services that will assist you in becoming a recognized expert in your fields of interest.

This role is intended to support ongoing growth in our European environmental policy and economics business. The role will involve working on projects focused on one or more of the following policy areas: water, hazardous chemicals, industrial emissions, air quality, natural capital and ecosystem services, climate change, waste and resources, as well as related ad-hoc specialist areas. We are looking for experience in one or more of these areas and you will be joining the business at an exciting time, with a strong forward workload, and an ambitious strategy for growth.

The role requires proven experience in applying economic theory and socio-economic techniques to environmental and other policies at national and/or international level, including cost-benefit and cost effectiveness analysis; ex-post evaluation; impact assessment; valuation of human health and social and environmental effects of policies; and assessing economic competitiveness.

Qualifications
  1. A proven track record of overseeing, managing and delivering socio-economic projects concerning national and/or international environmental, health and/or safety policy (preferably in a consultancy context). An ability to deliver excellent quality work to clients while remaining commercially-focused.
  2. Mathematical / quantitative analysis, data / statistical modelling skills.
  3. Analytical / economic techniques such as: survey design and execution; market analysis; socio-economic analysis; regulatory impact assessment.
  4. Familiarity with national and international sources of government and business statistics.
  5. Demonstrable experience in standard techniques in policy development and implementation, including evaluation of technical / policy measures; cost-benefit analysis; data collection, validation and analysis; and stakeholder consultation.
  6. A proven track record of developing professional networks, securing new business and delivering successful commercial proposals (for senior consultant grade).
  7. Excellent communication skills and ability to write clear and concise reports in English.
  8. Organisational skills, the ability to take the initiative and the ability to plan your work and adhere to fixed deadlines.
  9. An undergraduate degree in economics or a closely related discipline. A focus on microeconomics and/or economics for public policy is an advantage.
  10. A postgraduate qualification in economics or one of the following in addition to undergraduate degree in economics: environmental science / technology, engineering, law or policy.
