An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated Speech and Language Therapist to join our highly skilled Speech and Language Therapy service and work within the neurosciences department. This post holder will carry a caseload covering acute neurology and stroke with support to the neuro-cardiology and trauma teams. They will have the opportunity to work on our instrumental assessment rota's and work towards relevant clinical competencies. The post holder will have experience providing SLT assessment and treatment of communication and swallowing disorders within an MDT setting. The post holder will carry their own caseload and have an important role in liaising with other specialist services to optimise patient outcomes. The successful post holder will receive regular supervision and support to develop specialist clinical skills. They will be joining a highly supportive and innovative Speech and Language Therapy Department, offering well established CPD opportunities. They will participate in weekend working as part of the therapies 7 day working policy. This post is 0.6 and there is some flexibility with working days however one day must be Friday.

• Assessing, treating and managing caseload of adults with acquired communication and/or swallowing disorders relevant to specialist SLT skills
• Making differential diagnosis on the basis of evidence from assessment
• Devising, implementing and evaluating individualised treatment programmes
• Referral to instrumental assessments of swallowing
• Counselling and advising others regarding the management and care of patients with communication and/or feeding and swallowing difficulties
• Managing and prioritising own caseload and workload independently
• Liaise with other colleagues and professional groups and referring patients for further investigation and/or second opinions as required
• Maintaining adequate records of assessment, management, and treatment of patients

They will participate in weekend working as part of the therapies 7 day working policy. This post is 0.6 and there is some flexibility with working days however one day must be Friday.

• Recognised Speech and Language Therapy Degree Qualification
• Health and Care Professions Council - Licence to Practice
• Registered Member of Royal College of Speech and Language Therapist
• Evidence of completion of specialist short courses and self directed study

• Relevant experience as a Speech & Language Therapist
• Working as part of a multidisciplinary team
• Relevant experience at undergraduate/post graduate level including clinical training, clinical experience with an adult caseload in a previous job or clinical placement

• Well established knowledge of a range of assessment tools relevant to specific client group with speech, language, communication and swallowing difficulties
• Well established knowledge of a range of therapeutic and management approaches relevant to client group
• Well established knowledge of dysphagia assessment and management
• Established knowledge of neuroanatomy and physiology as relevant to this post
• Negotiation and problem solving skills
• Demonstrates excellent concentration, analytical and reflection skills
• Good interpersonal skills - including observation, listening and empathy skills
• Good presentation skills, both written and verbal
• Good organisational and prioritisation skills
• Good auditory discrimination skills and ability to transcribe speech phonetically
• Demonstrates ability to be a good team member
• Awareness of national policies and procedures (relevant to the specialist client group)
• Competent with IT skills
• Understanding of the principles of Clinical Governance and the implications for SLT
• Understanding of the roles of other professionals (relevant to the client group)
• Knowledge of standards of record keeping
• Good written and spoken English
