Mechanical Design Engineer (Contract)

On–Site in York, Commutable From: Leeds, Harrogate, Selby, Wetherby, Tadcaster, Malton, Ripon

20 – 30 per hour (Ltd/Umbrella) Outside IR35 6–Month Initial Contract + Early Finish Fridays

Are you an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer with a background in bespoke machinery or automation looking for an excellent opportunity to oversee innovative design projects from concept to completion?

This forward–thinking engineering company specialises in designing and building bespoke packaging machinery and are now looking to introduce an experienced design engineer to implement some external industry expertise.

You'll be central to the automation and redesign of their flagship product ensuring they are able to remain as the go to supplier within their industry. Alongside this, you will be responsible for mentoring and supporting junior members of the team.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in mechanical design, automation, and special–purpose machinery, with excellent CAD skills and a proactive mindset. This is a fantastic opportunity to contribute to cutting–edge engineering work in a supportive, collaborative environment.

The Role:

• Lead design and automation of an innovate machinery line
• Mentor junior engineers and support their technical development
• Contribute to FATs and provide second–line workshop and production support

The Person:

• 8+ years' experience in mechanical design and automation (bespoke/special–purpose machinery)
• Proficient in CAD (SolidWorks or similar) with a detail–oriented, hands–on approach
• Strong problem–solving mindset with process improvement and project delivery experience
