About our Platform Engineering team

The Platform team underpins everything our tech teams build. We're here to empower developers to ship confidently and at speed - creating a scalable, secure environment with great developer experience.

The role and what you'll be doing

As a member of the platform team, you'll be responsible for:

1. Defining and implementing best practices in infrastructure and software delivery in our new GCP environments.
2. Managing and evolving our CI/CD tooling using GitHub Actions to enable rapid, reliable software delivery.
3. Building reusable Infrastructure-as-Code templates and pipelines that product and data teams can build on.
4. Developing automation and tooling to improve developer productivity and operational efficiency.
5. Providing expert advice and guidance to other developer teams on cross-functional aspects, identifying performance bottlenecks, and ensuring optimal scalability.
6. Championing cloud cost optimisation, observability, and high-quality infrastructure delivery practices.
7. Leveraging the latest technologies and tools to enhance developers' productivity and overall platform experience.

What we are looking for

Skills we look for (but don't worry if you don't tick all of them):

1. Hands-on GCP experience - especially in infrastructure or data platform contexts (e.g. BigQuery, Cloud Functions, IAM etc.).
2. Proficiency in at least one infrastructure as code language; experience in Terraform would be ideal.
3. Strong emphasis on automation - building testable and repeatable infrastructure through continuous delivery pipelines.
4. Comfortable developing and managing modern CI/CD tooling e.g. GitHub actions, Gitlab-ci, CircleCI.
5. Proficient in Python with a strong emphasis on scripting in a test-driven, object-oriented manner - essential for developing automation and tooling used within the platform.
6. Experience developing AWS cloud infrastructure is a bonus, as you will have the opportunity to contribute to our existing AWS estate.
7. A mindset of treating Infrastructure as Software - using code reviews, trunk-based development, and automated testing.
8. Operational experience with observability practices and tooling such as logging, alerting, and tracing.
9. Cost awareness and ability to manage cloud spend efficiently.
10. Comfortable leading technical initiatives and mentoring others in best practices.
