Job summary

Tilbury Douglas offers a Year Out Placement for students in Civil/Structural/Building Services Engineering or Construction, to work as part of a live project team. You’ll gain hands-on experience across engineering and construction management on site in Shotley Bridge, NE region, with travel to project sites as needed.

You’ll develop practical skills in planning, coordination, safety, quality and commercial considerations, while supporting design, commercial and operations teams.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a degree in Civil Engineering or Building Services Engineering with a placement year.
• Full UK driving licence, or working towards by Feb 2027.
• Strong problem-solving, practical and logical approach.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.
• Collaborative mindset with willingness to learn and take on responsibility.
• Previous placement or site experience is desirable but not essential.

Responsibilities

• Assist with day-to-day management of site operations to ensure safe delivery aligned with the project programme.
• Develop understanding of how construction and engineering are delivered safely and to required standards.
• Contribute to setting out, surveying and engineering control activities on site.
• Support preparation of method statements, risk assessments and quality documentation.
• Assist with coordinating subcontractors, suppliers and site teams.
• Attend and contribute to planning meetings and progress reviews.
