Job summary

Milk Education is recruiting a Year 6 Teaching Assistant to join a mainstream primary school in Durham for the new academic year. You will support a Year 6 class, working closely with the class teacher to keep pupils engaged, confident and ready for transition to secondary school.

The role involves 1:1 and small group work, supporting English, maths and broader curriculum topics, plus targeted interventions and SATs preparation. A calm, reliable approach is essential.

Qualifications

• Prior Year 6 or KS2 teaching support experience.
• Level 2 or Level 3 TA / Supporting Teaching & Learning qualification.
• Experience supporting English and maths.

Responsibilities

• Support the Year 6 class throughout the school day.
• Work with pupils 1:1 and in small groups.
• Support English and maths and wider curriculum learning.
• Assist with SATs preparation and targeted interventions.
• Support reading, writing and comprehension.
• Encourage independent learning and good classroom routines.

Milk Education is looking for an experienced Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming mainstream primary school in Durham, supporting a Year 6 class throughout the school year.

You'll work closely with the class teacher to keep pupils engaged, confident and prepared for the transition to secondary school.

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING

• Supporting the Year 6 class throughout the school day
• Working with pupils 1:1 and in small groups
• Supporting English, maths and wider curriculum learning
• Helping with SATs preparation and targeted interventions
• Supporting reading, writing and comprehension
• Encouraging independent learning and good classroom routines
• Providing additional support where pupils need it
• Helping maintain a positive and focused classroom environment
• Working closely with the class teacher and wider school team

WHO WE'RE LOOKING FOR

We’re particularly keen to hear from candidates with:

Previous Year 6 or KS2 experience
Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant / Supporting Teaching & Learning qualification
Experience supporting English and maths
Strong classroom management and communication skills
Confidence working with groups and individual pupils
A calm, reliable and positive approach

Experienced TAs, HLTAs, graduates and candidates with strong KS2 backgrounds are encouraged to apply.

PAY

This role is paid within the advertised pay scale. Your starting rate will be determined by your qualifications, relevant experience, and the requirements of the assignment.
