Job summary

TeacherActive is assisting a welcoming primary school in Witham to appoint a dedicated Year 5 Teacher for a maternity cover starting October 2026. The role is three days per week (Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday) with a strong focus on KS2 delivery.

You will plan and deliver engaging Year 5 lessons, assess pupil progress and uphold high standards of learning and behaviour, while collaborating with a supportive staff team.

Qualifications

  • Must have Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
  • Experience teaching in a Primary School, ideally KS2.
  • Strong knowledge of the National Curriculum and current assessment expectations.
  • Ability to plan and deliver engaging lessons to a Year 5 class.
  • Excellent classroom and behaviour management skills.
  • High expectations for pupil achievement and development.
  • Positive, enthusiastic and collaborative approach to teaching.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver engaging KS2 lessons for Year 5.
  • Assess pupil progress and maintain high standards of learning and behaviour.
  • Take responsibility for three days per week during maternity cover (Tue–Thu).
  • Collaborate with school staff to support pupil development.

TeacherActive is proud to be working with a welcoming Primary School in Witham that is looking to appoint a dedicated Year 5 Teacher from October 2026.

The school has a strong culture of high expectations across both academic achievement and pupils' personal and social development. They provide an exciting and engaging curriculum designed to promote a genuine love of learning, supported by a passionate and collaborative staff team.

The successful Primary Teacher will take responsibility for a Year 5 class three days per week – Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. This is a fixed-term maternity cover position for up to one year. You will be responsible for planning and delivering engaging KS2 lessons, assessing pupil progress and maintaining high standards of learning and behaviour.

The successful Primary Teacher will have:
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
  • Experience teaching within a Primary School, ideally across KS2.
  • Strong knowledge of the National Curriculum and current assessment expectations.
  • Confidence planning and delivering engaging lessons to a Year 5 class.
  • Excellent classroom and behaviour management skills.
  • High expectations for pupil achievement and development.
  • Strong communication and organisational skills.
  • A positive, enthusiastic and collaborative approach to teaching.
