Job summary

Teach Now are helping a welcoming primary school in Haringey recruit a Year 2 Teaching Assistant to support reading, phonics and writing. You will work across a lively class, lead small groups and provide encouragement.

Hours are 8:30am–3:30pm, Monday to Friday, term time only, with pay dependent on experience. The role offers the chance to support pupils with strong phonics knowledge and good behaviour management, in a supportive team that values CPD and safeguarding.

Qualifications

• KS1 classroom experience, ideally in Year 1 or Year 2
• Strong phonics knowledge and experience supporting reading groups
• Positive behaviour management skills
• Understanding of neurodiversity and emotional regulation
• An enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to apply

Responsibilities

• Work alongside the teacher, supporting pupils flexibly across the class
• Lead phonics and reading groups, providing targeted support where needed
• Reinforce phonics and writing skills across the curriculum
• Encourage positive behaviour and support emotional regulation
• Complete a 30-minute lunchtime duty

About the Role

A welcoming primary school in Haringey is seeking a Year 2 Teaching Assistant with strong phonics knowledge to help children become confident readers. Working across a lively, mixed class, you will support the teacher, lead small groups and provide extra encouragement where needed. This is a whole-class role, with a focus on reading, phonics and writing. The school uses Little Wandle and Rapid Catch-up, although a solid understanding of phonics is more important than familiarity with these programmes. A calm, warm approach, clear boundaries and positive behaviour management will help you thrive.

Requirements

• KS1 classroom experience, ideally in Year 1 or Year 2

• Two professional references covering recent work with children
