Job summary

Newcastle City Council is seeking an experienced Workshop Operations Manager to lead a high‑performing vehicle maintenance operation for a diverse fleet of 700+ vehicles, plant and equipment in Newcastle upon Tyne.

You will ensure safety, Operator Licence compliance and reliable availability to support frontline council services, while driving continuous improvement and a strong safety culture across the workshop teams.

Qualifications

• Proven track record managing an HGV workshop or fleet maintenance operation.
• Strong knowledge of DVSA regulations and Operator Licence compliance.
• Experience using fleet maintenance management systems to schedule servicing, inspections and MOTs.

Responsibilities

• Lead delivery of a high performing vehicle maintenance operation for 700+ vehicles, plant and equipment.
• Ensure fleet safety, licence compliance and availability to support critical council services.
• Drive service improvement, safety culture and fleet sustainability initiatives.
• Manage workshop staff and maintain assets, buildings and equipment in a compliant way.
• Monitor performance and budgets to deliver value for money and high service standards.
