Job summary
Newcastle City Council is seeking an experienced Workshop Operations Manager to lead a large-scale vehicle maintenance operation. You will oversee a diverse fleet of over 700 vehicles, plant and equipment, ensuring safety, regulatory compliance and reliable service to frontline operations.
You will manage Workshop Controllers and technicians, drive improvements, and promote a culture of safety and efficiency while supporting fleet sustainability and decarbonisation goals.
Qualifications
- Proven track record managing an HGV workshop or fleet maintenance operation.
- Strong knowledge of DVSA regulations and Operator Licence compliance.
- Experience using fleet maintenance management systems to schedule, service, inspections and MOTs.
- Experience leading workshop staff within a multi-site operation.
Responsibilities
- Lead the delivery of a high-performing vehicle maintenance operation for 700+ vehicles, plant and equipment.
- Ensure safety, compliance and availability of the fleet to support frontline services.
- Drive service improvement and a strong culture of safety and compliance.
- Manage Workshop Controllers and technicians, and monitor workshop performance within budget.
- Support sustainability and decarbonisation goals for the fleet.
