Job summary

Rivan Industries is expanding its London HQ and seeking a Workshop Manager to lead a skilled team of machinists, technicians and welders. You will oversee day-to-day production, ensure timely component manufacture, and maintain safety and quality standards across the factory floor.

Based in Bermondsey, South London, you will report to the Manufacturing Director and play a key role in scaling our 60,000 sq ft facility.

Qualifications

• Experience running a workshop team or similar (2-3 years).
• Hands-on experience with industrial production using mills, lathes, etc.
• Experience managing machinists, welders, fitters.
• Ability to report progress accurately to Senior Management.
• Understanding of safe working practices and disseminating guidance to the team.
• Proven track record of workshop continuous improvements.

Responsibilities

• Day-to-day operational management of the technical team to manufacture components/assemblies.
• Lead a team of machinists, technicians and welders to ensure timely production.
• Oversee manufacturing of components and involvement in hands-on production when needed.
• Instil quality principles and ensure parts are checked along the line.
• Uphold safety as a core responsibility and provide senior oversight in the factory.
• Maintain production facilities and keep shop areas clean and safe.

Job description

Rivan Industries (Rivan.com) is a synthetic fuel company designed to decarbonise heavy industry. We aim to make synthetic fuel cheaper than fossil fuels and sustain life on Earth by keeping the CO2 locked underground.

We design and manufacture modular synthetic fuel plants consisting of a DAC system, an Alkaline Electrolyser, and a Sabatier Reactor, vertically integrating with off-grid DC solar and the European gas-grid. We’ve recently deployed the UK’s largest synthetic fuel plant and are planning to 1000x this scale in the next 2 years.

We’re looking for a Workshop Manager as we continue to expand into our new 60,000 sq ft manufacturing and R&D facility in London, with further expansion on the horizon over the next 12 months, whilst simultaneously deploying our hardware at project sites. This is someone who understands how to effectively manage an experienced group of Engineering Technicians to create and build systems which will change the world. You’ll ensure that the factory’s machinery and team are utilised to the highest level.

The role:

Day to day operational management of technical team to manufacture components/assemblies

• Managing team of machinists, technicians, and welders to ensure components/assemblies are manufactured in a timely manner.
• Quick turnaround of repeat production, and new R&D test components.

Manufacturing of Components

• Whilst you will be managing a team to create critical components, we also require someone who is experienced in operating machinery who can step in when needed.
• This includes mills, lathes, laser cutters, pipe benders, and more.
• When not managing the team, manufacturing of components will be required. We want someone who has the technical skills, but can also oversee the team.

Quality

• Whilst a quality team will inspect and sign off systems before they go out the door, it is critical that parts/assemblies are inspected as they travel down the line, to avoid costly re-work.
• This role is the first line of defence, where you will instill quality principles into your team.

Safety

• Rivan Industries considers safety the utmost importance. It is critical in this role that the operations conducted within the team are conducted safely.
• Safety is every staff member’s responsibility, however this role must offer more senior oversight to those working within the factory.

Instructing Maintenance and Upkeep of Production Facilities

• Machine shops, welding bays, and assembly areas must be maintained to a high clean standard.
• This is critical for safety, but also to maintain a professional workspace for all.

The role will report directly to the Manufacturing Director.

Core skills:

• 2-3 years running a workshop team or similar
• Hands on experience of industrial production using machinery (mills, lathes, etc)
• Experience managing technical teams of machinists, welders, fitters
• Ability to report progress accurately to Senior Management
• Understanding of general safe working practices, and able to disseminate/advise the team
• Proven track record of workshop continuous improvements
• Familiar with factory production order flow/processes

Specifics:

• £50 - 70k salary depending on experience
