Job summary

Rivan Industries in London invites applications for an Assembly Technician to accelerate our rapid prototyping and testing cycles at our Bermondsey HQ. You will join a fast-paced environment that values practical build skills, problem solving, and attention to detail.

We expect 4–5 years in a workshop, factory, or lab, with hands-on project builds and an engineering background. This role is in-person at our Bermondsey site with generous relocation support.

Qualifications

• 4–5 years professional experience in workshop/factory/lab.
• Hands-on project builds demonstrated with concrete examples.
• Engineering degree or apprenticeship in engineering.
• Personal projects showing tinkering or making.

Responsibilities

• Design, build and execute tests validating engineering assumptions across fluid, thermal and electrical systems.
• Hands-on assembly: fitting, alignment, fastening, mechanical integration and occasional wiring.
• Maintain a clean, organized workshop and coordinate with external contractors when needed.

Rivan Industries (Rivan.com) is a synthetic fuel company designed to decarbonise heavy industry. We aim to make synthetic fuel cheaper than fossil fuels and sustain life on earth by keeping the CO2 locked underground.

We design and manufacture modular synthetic fuel plants consisting of a DAC system, an Alkaline Electrolyser, and a Sabatier Reactor, vertically integrating with off-grid DC solar and the European gas-grid. We’ve recently deployed the UK’s largest synthetic fuel plant and are planning to 1000x this scale in the next 2 years.

We have “increase iteration speed or die” up on the wall at our HQ. The success of Rivan is really down to the speed at which we can iterate through bad designs to something that has staying power. Since information is the bottleneck, our ability to quickly build everything from test-rigs to full-scale assemblies is the difference between life and death. We’re looking for an Assembly Technician to supercharge that build pace, enabling our engineering teams to surface valuable information, and compound our iteration speed. The role:

• Help us design, build and execute tests that validate engineering assumptions across fluid, thermal and electrical systems. You’ll bring strong practical capability and assembly expertise, and you'll be able to spot bottlenecks, diagnose issues and suggest ways to improve our assembly processes.
• Hands‑on, fast paced engineering - fitting, alignment, fastening, mechanical integration and occasional electrical wiring. You'll help us take designs from the drawing board into our workshop at a rapid pace.
• Help keep our workshop operating at its best. Maintain a clean, organised and ready‑to‑use environment, look after tooling and equipment, and ensure the parts and materials the team needs are available when required.

Other areas we’re looking for:

• We’re after a technician to propose solutions rather than just follow instructions. We need high agency and experience to make this work.
• We don’t want technicians at Rivan to just be “executioners”. We’re after experienced technicians that are a source of knowledge and help guide on issues rather than just doing tasks.
• We’d like this role to take the lead on coordinating with external contractors to implement solutions. This might be anything from air extraction to compressors.
