Job summary

Orbital Recruitment in Derby is seeking an experienced Engineering Workshop Bench Hand to join the team. You will support CNC and patternmaking operations, preparing materials for CNC machining and performing hand-finishing on machined components.

The role involves using woodworking and general workshop machinery, assisting CNC machinists and patternmakers, and ensuring finished work meets quality and safety standards in a busy workshop environment.

Job description

Orbital Recruitment are looking for an experienced Engineering Workshop Bench Hand to join their team in Derby.

This is a practical, hands-on workshop role supporting our client's CNC and patternmaking operation. You’ll be preparing materials ready for CNC machining, carrying out hand-finishing work on machined components and helping keep production moving across the workshop.

Our client manufacture patterns, models and tooling for the foundry and wider engineering industries from their Derby facility, with a mixture of CNC, woodworking and metalworking machinery on site.

What you’ll be doing:

• Preparing materials and stock ready for CNC machining
• Hand finishing, fettling and cleaning up machined components
• Using woodworking and general workshop machinery
• Supporting CNC machinists and patternmakers with day-to-day production
• Checking finished work for quality and accuracy
• Keeping the workshop organised and working safely around machinery

What they’re looking for:

• Previous experience working within an engineering, manufacturing or patternmaking workshop
• Confident using woodworking machinery and hand tools
• Experience preparing and finishing machined components
• Good practical skills and attention to detail
• Comfortable working with a variety of materials
• Someone who enjoys a hands-on role and can work well as part of a workshop team

Salary & Working Hours:

• Starting salary of £31,200 per annum
• Flexible start times 6am - 8am, Mon - Fri, 8 hour shifts
• Overtime available
