Wood Machinist Position in Somerset

Our client is seeking an experienced Wood Machinist to join their team. The Wood Machinist will be responsible for setting up and operating timber moulding machines, machining timber to meet customer orders, and ensuring high-quality, timely delivery.

Responsibilities

1. Operate and set machines such as Moulders, 4 Siders, Spindle Moulder, Thicknesser, and Cross Cut to meet targets and quality standards.
2. Set up 4-head, 5-head, and 6-head moulders, including bespoke profiles.
3. Sharpen cutters and set moulding blocks for custom profiles.
4. Perform routine cleaning and maintenance of machines and tooling.
5. Accurately record sawn/machined timber on production paperwork or systems.
6. Stack, band, and label completed orders safely and neatly.
7. Perform other sawmill and production tasks as required.

Requirements

• Experience in wood machining, especially with 4-sided moulders and profile setting.
• Knowledge of grinding profiles and sharpening tooling.
• Ability to operate woodworking machinery confidently.
• Experience in a timber sawmill environment; relevant certifications preferred.
• Forklift license is advantageous but not essential (training available).
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Flexible, solution-oriented approach with keen attention to detail.
• Ability to work efficiently under time pressure.
