Job summary

TXP is seeking an experienced SQL Database Infrastructure Engineer on a 12 Month FTC. The role centres on Windows Server and SQL Server, owning the database estate, maintaining stability, and delivering secure, robust solutions. Hybrid working options are available with some travel to Warwickshire as required.

Key duties include reviewing changes, optimizing performance, building standards, and collaborating with internal teams and external partners to drive service improvements.

Qualifications

• Strong hands-on experience installing, configuring and troubleshooting Microsoft Windows Servers.
• Deep knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server installation, configuration and troubleshooting.
• Experience with SQL Server migrations and Always On Availability Groups.
• VMware virtualisation and Active Directory/DNS/DHCP proficiency.
• Ability to own projects, lead investigations and communicate with stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical advisory support for projects and incidents related to databases.
• Review change requests across the database estate and communicate reviews to stakeholders.
• Assess performance, define guardrails and ensure third party compliance.
• Evaluate consolidation opportunities and cost savings across the database estate.
• Represent the team on CAB for network infrastructure changes.

SQL Database Infrastructure Engineer

12 Month FTC

£55,000 - £60,000 PA, Plus 17.5% Bonus & Fantastic Benefits Package

Are you an experienced Infrastructure Professional with a strong background in Windows servers and SQL Server?

A superb Fixed Term Contract opportunity has become available with our leading financial services client to provide technical ownership of the Database Estate, maintain its stability, and ensure secure and robust solutions.

As a highly accomplished Microsoft Wintel Server SME, your key duties will include -

• Provide technical advisory support for projects and respond to database related P1, P2 and P3 incidents.
• Review and approve change requests across the database estate, assess potential impacts, and communicate detailed reviews to stakeholders.
• Assess database performance, recommend improvements, define guardrails and build standards, and ensure third party providers comply.
• Evaluate and advise on consolidation opportunities and cost savings across the database environment.
• Represent the team on the Change Advisory Board (CAB) to evaluate, prioritise, approve or reject changes to the Network infrastructure.
• Collaborate with external IT partners and vendors to drive service improvements.

The successful candidate will have the following experience -

• Strong hands-on experience installing, configuring and troubleshooting Microsoft Windows Servers.
• Strong practical knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server installation, configuration and troubleshooting across different versions.
• Experience of SQL Server migrations, upgrades and moving applications or workloads between environments.
• Practical experience with SQL Server Always On Availability Groups.
• Good working knowledge of VMware virtualisation.
• Solid infrastructure knowledge covering Active Directory, DNS and DHCP.
• Working and demonstrable knowledge and experience of Microsoft SQL.
• In depth experience in Database migrations and consolidation.
• Good working experience of Database observability and troubleshooting issues.
• Exposure to cloud technologies (Azure SQL PaaS).
• Experience producing clear technical documentation, standards, build guides, policies or guardrails.
• Ability to take technical ownership, lead investigations and work effectively with internal teams and third-party partners.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the confidence to propose ideas and lead technical discussions.

Desirable Experience -

• Working and demonstrable knowledge and experience of Oracle and PostgreSQL.
• Exposure to Microsoft Azure, Azure SQL services and hybrid-cloud migration activity.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Entra ID.
• Basic familiarity with PostgreSQL - you should be comfortable researching, installing and configuring it to recognised best practice when needed.
