An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Welfare Officer to join our Student Experience and Wellbeing team reporting to our Student Experience and Wellbeing Manager. We are a supportive, friendly, and hardworking team committed to promoting the wellbeing, resilience, and personal development of all learners across Stockton Riverside College and the wider Education Training Collective (Etc.). Our work involves close collaboration with curriculum teams, safeguarding practitioners, parents/carers, and external agencies to ensure students feel safe, supported, and empowered to achieve.

As a department, we offer a holistic approach to student support — from welfare and mental health interventions to enrichment activities, resilience-building events, and financial support through our bursary services. We take pride in being approachable, student-centred, and flexible, always aiming to create an inclusive and positive environment where every student can thrive.

As a Welfare Officer with Stockton Riverside College, you will be responsible for identifying and delivering welfare support to individual students or groups, using college systems and working in close partnership with curriculum teams, safeguarding practitioners, parents/carers, and external agencies. You will help address key wellbeing issues, promote resilience, and improve attendance and engagement through targeted interventions, events, and collaborative planning. The role includes attending safeguarding-related meetings, contributing to the development of student wellbeing strategies, participating in on-site hub duties, and working flexibly across all Etc. sites as needed.

The ideal candidate will be organised, empathetic, and resilient, with strong communication and problem-solving skills. They will be able to work independently and as part of a team, demonstrate excellent attention to detail, and have the ability to manage sensitive situations with professionalism and care. A flexible and proactive approach is essential, as is a commitment to student wellbeing and safeguarding.

We are looking for someone with experience of working with young people or vulnerable adults, ideally within an educational or support setting. A relevant Level 3 qualification (e.g. Youth Work, Health and Social Care) is desirable, but not essential. Full training and support will be provided.
