Artis Recruitment Ltd is partnering with a Bristol-based professional services organisation to appoint a Web Engineering Manager who will lead the development of a key customer-facing digital platform. The role blends 60% people management and technical leadership with 40% hands-on engineering.

You will shape the engineering direction, architecture and standards while remaining actively involved in design, reviews and crucial technical challenges, driving modern, scalable web platforms.

Job description

I’m working with an established professional services organisation in Bristol looking to appoint a Web Engineering Manager to lead the development and evolution of a key customer-facing digital platform.

This is a technical leadership role combining approximately 60% team management and technical leadership with 40% hands-on engineering. You’ll lead and develop the engineering team while remaining actively involved in architecture, solution design, code reviews and technical problem-solving.

The Role

You’ll take ownership of the engineering direction and ongoing development of a complex web platform, including a significant transformation towards a modern, headless and multi-brand architecture.

Working with internal developers, senior stakeholders and external technology partners, your responsibilities will include:

• Leading, mentoring and developing the engineering team.
• Defining technical architecture, standards and the engineering roadmap.
• Remaining hands-on with solution design, code reviews and key technical challenges.
• Driving development best practice, testing, automation and CI/CD improvements.
• Supporting the evolution and management of AWS cloud infrastructure.
• Ensuring platform performance, security, scalability and reliability.
• Managing external engineering partners and maintaining delivery standards.

About You

We’re looking for an experienced engineering professional with a strong software development background who enjoys leading people without losing touch with the technology.

Ideally, you’ll have:

• Experience managing or leading software engineering teams.
• Experience with APIs, modern web architectures and AWS.
• A background in architectural design and complex web platforms.
• Experience with code reviews, engineering standards and CI/CD.
• Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
• Experience with headless architecture, multi-brand platforms and AI-assisted development tools would be advantageous.
