Job summary

AtkinsRéalis Group is seeking a Technical Director – Mechanical Engineer with deep water sector expertise to lead technical excellence across UK water projects. The role combines strategic leadership with hands-on delivery, driving innovation and robust engineering governance.

You will influence AMP8 projects, mentor teams, and build strong client relationships while guiding multidisciplinary teams through complex infrastructure lifecycles. This hybrid role involves UK-wide travel.

Qualifications

• Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering, Chartered Engineer status and related professional recognition.
• Extensive experience in water/wastewater infrastructure design, delivery, and standards.
• Strong leadership, client engagement and strategic business development capabilities.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic technical leadership across water and wastewater programmes.
• Act as Project Director/Technical Director or Chief Engineer as appropriate.
• Lead technical governance, assurance and risk management for projects.
• Mentor senior engineers and develop a strong succession pipeline.
• Foster a high-performing culture focused on technical excellence and knowledge sharing.
• Develop and maintain trusted client relationships and represent the business.
• Shape bidding strategies and support major proposals.
