Job summary

AtkinsRéalis, within the D&AT Practice, seeks a Technical Director – Civil Water Engineer to lead technical excellence across UK water and wastewater programmes. You will shape strategy, mentor teams, and strengthen client relationships while steering major infrastructure projects from concept through delivery.

The role emphasizes leadership, governance, and growth, with UK-wide travel and hybrid working from multiple hubs.

Qualifications

Degree qualified in Civil Engineering (ICE chartered preferred).
Extensive experience in design, assessment and delivery of water and wastewater infrastructure.
Recognised technical authority in civil engineering for water projects.
Proven track record leading bids, securing strategic commissions and growing water sector business.
Strong leadership, collaboration and ability to mentor cross-disciplinary teams.

Responsibilities

Provide strategic technical leadership across water and wastewater programmes, acting as Project Director/Technical Director as appropriate.
Lead governance, quality oversight and engineering governance for water projects.
Act as a technical authority guiding multidisciplinary teams while ensuring regulatory and environmental compliance.
Lead technical decision-making and promote sustainable, resilient, whole-life solutions.
Develop client relationships and opportunities to grow AtkinsRéalis' water business in the UK.
