Job summary

AtkinsRéalis is seeking an experienced Design Manager to lead the water and wastewater infrastructure design within the D&AT practice. You will coordinate engineering teams, oversee technical deliverables, and drive complex multi-disciplinary solutions across major projects for water clients in the UK.

The role offers hybrid working with three office/site days per week, flexible development opportunities, and exposure to nationally significant water programs across the UK and beyond.

Qualifications

• Degree-qualified in Civil Engineering with Chartered/Incorporated status or capable to achieve ICE chartership within 12 months.
• Strong experience leading engineering design teams within consultancy and multi-disciplinary project environments.
• Ability to develop innovative, practical solutions to complex engineering and design challenges.
• Sound knowledge of risk management, quality assurance, change control, commercial considerations, and multi-disciplinary design coordination.
• Good understanding of relevant design standards, regulations, and industry best practice, including CDM, Eurocodes, NEC, and water industry requirements.
• Competent in engineering and project delivery tools including AutoCAD, CDE platforms, Microsoft Office, Power BI, and other analytical software.

Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate engineering teams to deliver high-quality water and wastewater infrastructure designs in line with standards and project requirements.
• Oversee production and review of technical deliverables, including reports, drawings, calculations, and scopes of work.
• Drive technical design inputs on complex multi-disciplinary projects while managing programmes, timeframes, and budgets.
• Collaborate with clients, operational teams, project managers, and wider AtkinsRéalis teams to achieve successful project outcomes.
• Mentor and support junior engineers, helping to develop technical capability within the local team.
• Work independently, applying professional judgement to solve complex engineering challenges and provide technical guidance.
• Support bid submissions and ensure compliance with QA and design reviews.
