Job summary

United Utilities is seeking a Treatment Technical Manager to lead technical excellence in wastewater treatment, focusing on performance, compliance and improvement planning. This role operates beyond daily operation to identify risks, develop frameworks, and translate insights into deliverable actions across teams.

You will drive horizon scanning, establish standards, and support investigations while developing specialist ownership of treatment performance areas.

Qualifications

• Significant practical experience and technical knowledge of wastewater treatment processes and assets.
• Good understanding of regulatory and environmental framework in which wastewater operates.
• Experience investigating operational or process failures and performing RCFA/root cause analysis.
• Ability to turn findings into structured, prioritized improvement plans.
• Excellent stakeholder management and influencing skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership across wastewater treatment with cross-functional teams.
• Lead RCFA to determine root causes and prevent recurrence.
• Analyse performance to identify risks and improvement opportunities.
• Develop and embed technical standards, guidance and bulletins.
• Lead specialist communities and ensure technical competence across teams.
• Support investigations into complex treatment and sample failures on-site.
