Job summary

Altera Recruitment Group Ltd is representing an established engineering consultancy across the UK water and wastewater sector, seeking an experienced Design Manager to lead complex, multidisciplinary design projects and deliver practical, compliant and commercially effective solutions.

You will be responsible for overseeing full project lifecycles from feasibility to handover, taking ownership of design packages and guiding teams to success.

Qualifications

• Degree in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Process Engineering or closely related discipline.
• Chartered Engineer status or progress toward registration (ICE, IMechE, IET, CIWEM).
• Experience delivering design in UK water or wastewater sector (treatment works, pumping stations, pipelines).
• Proven leadership of multidisciplinary design teams and technical responsibility for medium to large projects.
• Knowledge of UK standards, CDM 2015, and regulatory health and safety requirements; familiarity with BIM and NEC contracts is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Lead multidisciplinary engineering teams delivering water and wastewater projects across treatment and infrastructure.
• Own design packages ensuring robust, compliant, buildable and cost-effective solutions.
• Manage design delivery from feasibility through detailed design, construction support and handover.
• Provide technical leadership and coordinate resources, risks and priorities.
• Act as a key technical contact for clients and stakeholders, contributing to design reviews and project meetings.
