About the Role
We are currently recruiting for an experienced Warehouse Supervisor to join a busy and fast-paced distribution operation in Coventry.
This is a hands-on supervisory position where you will be responsible for overseeing day-to-day warehouse operations, ensuring customer requirements and service levels are consistently achieved, while maintaining high standards of health & safety, quality and productivity.
You will lead and support a team of warehouse operatives, manage workflow and resources, monitor performance and KPIs, and identify opportunities to improve processes and operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the day-to-day running of warehouse operations, ensuring work is completed safely, accurately and on time.
- Plan and allocate resources to ensure orders are picked, packed and dispatched within required deadlines.
- Lead, support and develop a team of warehouse operatives, including performance management, training and appraisals.
- Organise workflow and maintain effective stock rotation, including FIFO processes.
- Monitor and report warehouse KPIs, productivity and employee performance.
- Ensure accurate management information and reporting is maintained.
- Maintain high standards of quality and ensure processes are followed in line with agreed procedures.
- Manage team holidays, sickness and absence records.
- Conduct site inductions and ensure employees receive appropriate training and SOP sign-off.
- Promote and maintain high standards of Health & Safety across the warehouse.
- Ensure warehouse equipment, facilities and working areas are maintained appropriately.
- Identify hazards and support the implementation of appropriate corrective actions.
- Work closely with other departments to ensure effective communication and joined-up operations.
- Liaise directly with customers to resolve queries, issues and complaints promptly.
- Attend regular customer and management meetings, providing updates on performance, issues and resource requirements.
- Identify opportunities for continuous improvement and recommend new or improved working practices.
- Prepare operational reports for management.
- Ensure the warehouse remains clean, organised and safe.
- Support the onboarding and training of new employees and colleagues moving into new responsibilities.
About You
The successful candidate will have previous experience within a warehouse, logistics or distribution environment, with proven experience supervising or leading a team.
You will be organised, proactive and confident managing people in a fast-paced operational environment. Strong communication skills are essential, as you will regularly interact with colleagues, management and customers.
Essential Requirements
- 3-5 years' experience within warehousing, logistics or distribution.
- Previous supervisory or team leadership experience, ideally 2-3 years.
- Experience managing warehouse operatives within a busy operation.
- Good understanding of warehouse processes and Health & Safety.
- Experience using a Warehouse Management System (WMS).
- Experience with warehouse equipment and operational processes.
- Good Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
- Strong numerical, analytical and reporting skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to prioritise and manage multiple tasks effectively.
- Experience handling employee relations, absence or performance matters is advantageous.
- Fire Warden training is desirable.
