Job summary

Gist, part of the M&S Group, is hiring a Warehouse Section Leader to help run a busy portbury operation. You’ll work with the Warehouse Shift Manager to coordinate activity, manage resources and keep performance on track across a 4 on/4 off, 10am–10pm pattern.

This hands-on role focuses on safe operations, accurate picking and timely product flow, with no direct line management required but significant influence over colleagues’ day-to-day work and priorities.

Qualifications

• Previous warehouse or logistics experience in FMCG or high-volume environments.
• Understanding of warehouse operations and prioritisation.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office; reports & operational data.
• Experience with a Warehouse Management System (SAP or similar).
• Strong communication and ability to direct colleagues.
• Ability to adapt to changing priorities and schedules.
• Commitment to safety, accuracy and standards.

Responsibilities

• Support daily resource planning to match demand.
• Coordinate warehouse and outbound activity for safe, accurate, timely movement.
• Monitor KPIs and support improvement actions.
• Produce and maintain reports using systems and Microsoft Office.
• Manage sickness and holiday coverage across the shift.
• Assist Warehouse Shift Manager with people-related activity.
• Provide clear communication and set priorities.
• Support induction and training for new starters.
• Identify risks and resolve them with the team.
• Champion health and safety in a safe, compliant environment.
• Support wider warehouse activities as priorities shift.
• Work with other areas for strong handovers.
