Job summary

DFDS is seeking a Warehouse Operative at our Grimsby depot to support stock movements, operate forklift, and handle paperwork in a chilled warehouse. The role follows a 4 on 4 off pattern with two shift options (07:00-19:00 or 09:00-21:00) and emphasizes accuracy, safety, and teamwork.

You will be part of a busy operation, learning across areas and contributing to daily targets while maintaining food hygiene standards and cold storage protocols.

Qualifications

• Forklift licence and experience in a chilled warehouse.
• Good numeracy and basic reading/writing ability.
• Strong attention to detail when handling paperwork and operating MHE.

Responsibilities

• Allocate stock to customer orders and move boxes of fresh fish.
• Build, wrap, and move pallets using warehouse systems.
• Complete allocation records, weight paperwork, and intake/outload docs.
• Perform pre-use MHE checks and safely load/unload trailers and vehicles.
• Maintain high standards of safety and housekeeping.
• Support picking, coldstore and other areas as needed.
• Assist with cleaning activities including ramps and work areas.

Job description

Are you looking for a position in which you keep things moving and deliver when it matters most? If so, then you could be the newest addition to our team as a Warehouse Operative in our Grimsby depot.

About The Role

Working a 4 on 4 off shift pattern (07:00-19:00 or 09:00-21:00), you'll support the day-to-day operation of a busy fresh fish warehouse, ensuring stock is handled accurately, safely, and efficiently. This is a hands-on role involving stock movements, forklift operations, paperwork completion, and supporting warehouse activities across multiple areas of the business.

You Will Be Responsible For

• Allocating stock to customer orders and moving or stacking boxes of fresh fish
• Building, wrapping, and moving pallets both physically and through warehouse systems
• Completing allocation records, product weight paperwork, and intake/outload documentation
• Carrying out pre-use MHE checks and safely loading and unloading trailers and rigid vehicles
• Maintaining high standards of health, safety, and warehouse housekeeping
• Supporting picking, coldstore, and other operational areas when required
• Assisting with warehouse cleaning activities, including deep cleaning of work areas and loading ramps

About You

A valid forklift licence and previous forklift experience within a chilled warehouse environment are essential for this role. Experience using mobile loading ramps would be beneficial but is not essential. You'll have good numeracy skills and basic reading and writing ability, along with strong attention to detail when handling paperwork and operating MHE equipment.

You'll thrive in this role if you're a reliable team player who is willing to learn from experienced colleagues and contribute positively to the wider operation. You'll be confident working independently on your own tasks while supporting the team to achieve daily targets. A strong work ethic, flexible attitude, and willingness to work additional shifts when required will help you succeed.

This role is ideal for someone looking to develop their career within DFDS and who is comfortable working in a chilled (0-4°C), wet warehouse environment. Powered Pallet Truck experience would be advantageous, and a willingness to go the extra mile for colleagues and customers alike will set you apart.
