Join DHL Global Forwarding – Warehouse General Manager, Air Freight Operations

We are looking for a dynamic Warehouse General Manager to lead our critical air freight operation at our largest facility near Heathrow Airport in Hayes, Greater London.

About the Role

This is a key leadership role, where you will be responsible for managing a complex 24/7 air freight operation spanning 150,000 sq ft. You will oversee the day-to-day operations, ensure security and compliance standards are maintained, and lead a diverse, unionised team (110 FTE) to success.

Key Responsibilities:

Operational Leadership

• Lead a 24/7 air freight operation at one of the largest facilities near Heathrow, ensuring the effective handling of complex and diverse cargo.
• Implement and track performance metrics to drive continuous operational improvements.
• Oversee the review and optimisation of shift patterns, ensuring the effective allocation of resources across the team.

Team Management

• Manage a team of five direct reports, including four duty managers on rotating shifts.
• Focus on coaching and developing your team, ensuring they have the tools, training, and support to excel.
• Build and nurture a strong culture of growth and performance, helping staff advance their careers within the company.

Aviation Compliance & Security

• Ensure full compliance with aviation security protocols and Dangerous Goods by Air (DG) regulations.
• Drive safety and security measures to mitigate risks and ensure a safe working environment for all staff.
• Oversee P&L management and ensure cost control across the operation while maintaining high standards of service.
• Manage procurement and facilities maintenance to ensure the smooth running of the warehouse.

About You - You will have:

• Proven experience in managing complex warehouse and air freight operations, ideally in a 24/7 environment.
• Strong leadership skills and experience in managing a unionised workforce.
• Ability to build performance metrics, optimise shift patterns, and implement process improvements.
• In-depth knowledge of aviation security, Dangerous Goods by Air (DG), ADR and GDP/MHRA compliance.
• Strong background in financial and facilities management.
