Job summary

London North West University Healthcare NHS Trust is seeking a Pharmacy Technician to join our ward-based medicines management team. You will manage medicines for multiple wards, promote safe and cost-effective use of medications, and help expand the medicines management technician service across the Trust.

You will assist in induction, training and supervision of new staff, and train healthcare colleagues on medicines management.

Qualifications

• Pharmacy Technician registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council.
• Experience in hospital pharmacy and medicines management.
• Willingness to participate in weekend and late duties.
• Strong communication and training skills.
• Proactive in audits and improving ward-based services.

Responsibilities

• Provide medicines management service to wards within Emergency, Acute, Medicine, Care of the Elderly and Surgery.
• Promote safe, efficient and cost-effective use of medicines at ward level.
• Support the medicines management pharmacy technician service across the Trust.
• Assist induction, training, supervision and support of new pharmacy staff.
• Assist in training of healthcare staff on medicines management at ward level.
• Participate in audits relating to medicines management.
• Complete medicines reconciliations in a timely manner to meet NICE.
• Assess patients' own drugs (PODs) for suitability for use.
• Order 'one stop dispensing' medications to promote discharge.
• Final accuracy check of prescriptions for ACPT competency (min eight hours per month).
• Provide advice to patients, representatives and healthcare professionals on medication issues.
• Provide technical support to satellite pharmacies and main dispensary.
