About the Role:

Due to company growth, we are looking to appoint a Drainage Assistant to join our Sheffield Depot. Working as part of a two person team, you will be responsible for attending drainage related issues such as blockages, pipe clearing, cleansing and reactive call outs.

  • Location: Sheffield
  • Hours: Monday to Friday – 40 hours per week
  • Salary: up to £15.25 per hour depending on experience

Responsibilities:
  • Operate machinery
  • Ensure all H&S requirements are followed
  • Communicate with customers about scheduled works and address any concerns.
  • Assist in identifying drainage issues, including blockages, structural defects, infiltration, and root ingress.
  • Operate high‑pressure water jetting equipment to clean and clear drains, sewers, and pipework.
  • Remove waste materials and prevent build‑up in wastewater systems.
  • Perform routine equipment checks and maintenance to keep readiness.
  • Support CCTV inspections to assess the condition of underground pipes and sewers.
  • Assist in emergency response situations, including flooding and urgent drainage issues.
  • Learn to complete job sheets, risk assessments, and method statements (RAMS) under supervision.
Requirements:
  • Full UK driving licence (no more than 6 penalty points)
  • A strong interest in drainage, utilities, or civil engineering
  • A practical, hands‑on approach and willingness to work outdoors in all conditions
  • Good communication and teamwork skills
  • Basic computer skills and a desire to learn new software

Lanes Group will provide all training required for the role such as high‑pressure water jetting, confined space, spill response, etc.
