Job summary

Birmingham City Council's Library Services is hiring a reliable Van Driver to support the delivery of library services across the city. Based with the Library of Birmingham, you will drive a multi-drop routes, collect and return books and stock, and assist with handling stock and customer service.

The role requires a clean C1 driving licence, accuracy in paperwork, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Benefits include pension, enhanced holiday, and wellbeing support.

Summary

We're looking for a reliable and customer-focused Van Driver to join the Library of Birmingham team.

This is a varied and rewarding role that supports the delivery of library services across the city, ensuring books and resources reach community libraries, residential homes, partner organisations, and outreach locations. The role combines driving, stock handling, customer service, and operational support, helping us deliver an accessible and high-quality library service to Birmingham's communities

About the Role

As a Van Driver, you will:

• Deliver and collect books, library stock, and other materials from designated locations across Birmingham.
• Sort books and library stock both at the depot and whilst completing delivery routes.
• Plan and complete efficient multi-drop delivery routes to meet service needs.
• Carry out routine vehicle checks and report any maintenance requirements.
• Report incidents such as vandalism, theft, or security concerns to senior staff.
• Maintain high standards of health and safety while carrying out all duties.

Essential Requirements

• Holds a full, clean, valid C1 driving licence. This role is subject to a DVLA check
• Has experience of driving within a multi-drop delivery environment.
• Can prioritise workloads and organise delivery routes effectively.
• Is physically fit and comfortable carrying and moving stock using safe manual handling techniques.
• Works well independently and as part of a team
• Has good literacy, numeracy, and ICT skills.
