Position Description

To lead the Utilities team and ensure that the routine operational requirements are met with a focus on continual improvement. Act as leader and coach of the Utilities team providing direction and support to:

1. Ensure that the Utilities are produced and distributed in a manner that meets Safety, Quality, Cost, environmental, and service requirements.
2. Ensure access to equipment for maintenance activities and programs carried out in a proactive and compliant manner to improve Safety, Reliability, Quality, and Efficiency.
3. Oversee all aspects of the Utilities, shift operations, including labor resource management, ensuring operational standards and key result areas are achieved via the Shift Leader Group.
4. Ensure 100% service and continuous utility supply to internal customers 24/7.

The Utilities role involves being a point of contact for internal customers during utility supply interruptions. Good communication with internal customers is essential.

Functions, Duties, Tasks

• Leadership and Direction setting: Establish goals, provide inspiration, and measure progress against targets.
• Manage: Performance management, objectives, development plans, and regular check-ins. Manage Pro-time, OTS, absence, and contractor assessments. Ensure all operators are fully trained.
• Coaching: Develop team capabilities and support team needs, representing the team to site and other groups.
• Financial: Manage team expense budgets, support cost reduction initiatives.
• Operational excellence: Develop and implement strategic plans, ensure services meet safety, quality, reliability, and cost-effectiveness standards, coordinate work, and implement initiatives.
• EHS: Ensure environmental, health, and safety standards, support audits, meetings, incident investigations, and safe work practices.
• Legionella: Manage legionella control in Cooling Tower Systems.
• PSM: Represent Utilities on the site PSM steering committee.
• Energy Centre: Manage CHP plant through a third party, ensuring contractual obligations and continuous improvement.
• Technical: Provide process and technical input, ensure SOPs and cGMP compliance, manage raw material requirements via SAP.
• Communication: Network with internal customers and external suppliers, facilitate meetings, shift handovers, logs.
• Trade Effluent and Energy Management: Identify efficiency improvements, collaborate with cross-site teams.

Minimum Qualifications

BEng/BSc in scientific or engineering discipline.

Delegation of Authority

In the absence of the Utilities Manager, authority is delegated to the Fermentation/Recovery Director or Senior Director of Operations.

Other Information

The Utilities team supplies primary utilities such as water, cooling water, chilled water, glycol, steam, HP air, nitrogen, electricity, and caustic. The team also oversees the site trade effluent systems. Reporting to the Senior Director of Operations, the Utilities Manager leads a team including Utilities Operations, Process Engineer, Maintenance Support Engineer, and oversees the Energy Centre via a third-party contract.
