SPECIALIST NURSE

CHILDRENS CONTINENCE SERVICE

We are looking for a motivated individual with an enthusiasm for childrens continence promotion to join our friendly team for a fixed term position.

This is an opportunity to develop skills in care planning for children with bladder and/or bowel dysfunction. This role requires autonomy of caseload management but you will be supported by a wider team that looks after adults with similar conditions.

The successful applicant will work across a clinic and office setting. A mixture of meeting with families to assess the needs of children and young people face-to-face with additional time to complete virtual follow-ups and caseload management responsibilities.

You will need good communication skills with both patients and colleagues to liaise with the wider multi-disciplinary services to provide the holistic care and effective management of continence.

Experience in the continence specialism is desirable but training can be provided to support your development.

This is a fixed term post and is for 15 hours per week for 1 year. The usual working hours are 8.30-4.30, 2 days per week and will be within Monday Friday, excluding bank holidays.

You will be mostly based at Hollyfield House although you will also need to be able to travel to our other sites as needed.

Main duties of the job

To ensure high quality community care young people aged 4-19 years who experience bladder and/or bowel difficulties including soiling and/or day and night time wetting.

Provide a Nurse-led children's continence service that meets the needs of children and their families indirectly or directly.

To improve outcomes for children and young people experiencing bladder and bowel difficulties.

Identify opportunities to empower parent/carers and their child in the management of their continence needs.

To undertake holistic continence assessments of children/young people affected by bladder and /or bowel conditions in line with national and local guidelines, policies, procedures and pathways.

Create care plans alongside children and their families which are carefully adapted to the individualised needs of the child/young person in order to successfully support the management of their continence difficulties according to the child/young persons goals for therapy, promoting continence wherever possible.

Work alongside the Urology and Colorectal Service Lead to support the shaping and management of the home delivery service and ensure a patient-focused service is delivered in line with quality indicators.
