Job description

We are seeking dedicated and motivated qualified professionals to join the Theatre department at the University Hospital Lewisham (UHL).

About the Role

The operating theatres at UHL provide elective and emergency services 24/7 in various specialties including orthopaedics, colorectal, general, gynaecology, urology, ENT, Paediatrics, Bariatrics, Trauma, CEPOD, and obstetrics.

The post involves ensuring patient safety throughout their journey in theatre, including availability of correct equipment at all times. The Anaesthetic nurse/ODP will provide direct patient care prior to and during anaesthesia, assist anaesthetists, and prepare equipment and monitoring.

The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering high standards of patient-focused, individualized care based on evidence-based practices. They will carry out aspects of patient care independently, communicate effectively with the multidisciplinary team, and contribute to the efficient operation of the theatre/department.

Responsibilities
  1. Ensure patient safety and equipment readiness in theatre.
  2. Provide direct patient care before and during anaesthesia.
  3. Assist anaesthetists and prepare necessary equipment and monitoring.
  4. Deliver high-quality, individualized patient care.
  5. Communicate effectively with team members and contribute to department operations.
  6. Participate in clinical governance and quality improvement initiatives.
  7. Adhere to professional and trust policies, including NMC and HCPC codes.
