Job summary

Arts University Plymouth is seeking a part-time housekeeping operative to maintain a clean and welcoming campus. The role covers early morning shifts, with duties including cleaning, safety checks and reporting maintenance needs.

Ideal candidates will have cleaning experience, basic numeracy and the ability to follow written instructions. Training will be provided; a supportive team environment and flexible working patterns are offered.

Salary: National Living Wage (£12.71 per hour / £11,928 per annum)

Hours: Part-time, 18 hours per week (Monday - Saturday, 06:15 am - 09:15 am)

About the Role

Working during our early morning shift (06:15am – 09:15am, Monday to Saturday), you’ll take pride in looking after our dynamic campus spaces.

Here’s what you’ll be doing:
  • Creating a Great First Impression: Keeping campus buildings looking their best, safest, and cleanest every day.
  • Using Equipment: Safely operating floor scrubbers, polishers, and vacuums (full guidance provided).
  • Working Safely: Following basic health, safety, and safeguarding guidelines, including safe product handling (COSHH).
  • Supporting Our Community: Helping maintain a space that directly supports teaching, learning, and creative work.
About You

We’re looking for someone dependable and proactive who enjoys being part of a team.

What you bring:
  • Experience with general cleaning tasks and high standards of cleanliness.
  • A good understanding of basic health and safety practices.
  • Comfort following written instructions and simple numbers.
  • Basic computer skills for email and reporting maintenance issues (or a willingness to learn—we’re happy to train you!).
  • Enthusiasm to learn new skills and participate in training.
