Job summary

Caterpillar Inc. in Peterborough and Birchwood seeks an Import and Customs Compliance Manager to lead Perkins Engines’ imports and ensure UK customs compliance. The role drives efficient, timely goods movement, governance, and continuous improvement across import processes.

The successful candidate will manage IP, CW, SCDP and training, aligning with regulatory standards while supporting audit readiness and cost control. Travel is limited.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in customs compliance, import operations, and IP/ CW regimes.
• Strong knowledge of UK customs regulations, classification and duty relief regimes.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills; data-driven decisions.

Responsibilities

• Lead IP, CW, and SCDP authorisations ensuring full UK compliance.
• Oversee import customs operations, broker governance and performance.
• Develop policies, controls, and audits to meet regulatory and business needs.
• Manage deferment account and support customs financial reporting.
• Be the primary contact for import regulations, tariff classification, origin.
• Partner with trade compliance teams to enable international initiatives.
• Build relationships across Supply Chain, Logistics, Finance and Engineering.
• Monitor regulatory developments and implement process changes as needed.
• Drive continuous improvement, compliance awareness and coaching.
• Ensure accurate record-keeping and audit readiness for customs.
• Identify opportunities to improve efficiency and duty recovery via Lean.
• Manage relationships with brokers, carriers and freight forwarders.
• Oversee customs-related insurance claims and risk activities.
• Lead, develop and motivate the Imports Team with KPIs and coaching.
