Job description

Do you have experience of interdisciplinary teaching? Are you able to support learners who are undertaking a transition into Higher Education (HE) with the development of academic skills for success in undergraduate study?
This role sits with the Arts & Humanities Foundation Year in the Lifelong Learning Centre (LLC) and aims to widen access to higher education for under-represented groups of students. Find out more about the LLC here: https://www.leeds.ac.uk/lifelong-learning.
The Arts and Humanities Foundation Year programme is designed to equip students with knowledge and skills for progression to a range of degree programmes in the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Cultures. You will contribute to the Level 0 teaching team for delivery of the 20 credit yearlong module 'LLLC0121 Image, Music and Text' and the 20 credit semester two module 'LLLC0143 Communications'. In addition, your role may also include contribution to programme level Academic Personal Tutorial support for foundation year learners across the academic year.
Teaching on the two Level 0 modules will provide an introduction to current thinking and approaches relating to the study of Art, Humanities and Cultures for foundation year learners as appropriate to module learning outcomes. Working with the Module Leader and Programme Leader, you will contribute to preparation, delivery, student support and assessment for these modules. Teaching will include the delivery of a strand of generic and subject-specific skills workshops, alongside lectures and seminars. Teaching for both modules is scheduled on Tuesdays in semester one and two. During semester two, some Communications module teaching is also scheduled on Thursdays - although your contribution to the module delivery and teaching sessions can be agreed flexibly for this module. Academic Personal Tutorials can be scheduled flexibly.

LLLC0121 Image, Music and Text

This yearlong module explores how image, music and text interact to create narrative and convey ideas. Students develop a critical and creative awareness of module themes via development of a creative portfolio and final outcome case study of their own choice. Your teaching in Semester 1 consists of approximately 8 lectures and 8 workshop contributions to this module, including preparation time. The focus of these interdisciplinary sessions can be flexible according to your subject specialism. This could include: film, image, music, podcast, websites, digital storytelling etc. The teaching support may include tutorial support for students working on their assignments during semester one. Your teaching in Semester 2 consists of approximately six one‑hour peer‑review workshops. You would be responsible for leading these creative workshops, tutorial support, and summative assessment of the creative assignment, as well as advising students on a range of creative practices and processes.

LLLC0143 Communications

This semester two module explores issues relating to communications and media, including new media and digital media in our contemporary context. Students develop understanding of the relationship between media and social change. The module learning outcomes support students to critically engage with interdisciplinary issues and developments in contemporary communication. Module assessment takes the form of individual presentations and an essay which critically engages with a media story. You will contribute to a proportion of module teaching, including lectures, workshops and seminars, as well as preparation for these taught sessions. Your role will include supporting students via module tutorials and contributing to the completion of formative and summative assessment.
