Job summary

AECOM is offering an Industrial Placement in Tunnelling & Underground Structures in the UK. You will gain hands-on experience across design, feasibility studies, and site visits within a global infrastructure team.

As a placement student, you will assist with tunnel and shaft designs, analyze data, and collaborate with engineers across disciplines, while adhering to health and safety practices and sustainability principles.

Qualifications

• Pursuing Civil or Civil & Structural Engineering with a 2:1 or higher.
• Strong interest in tunnelling and underground structures.
• Exposure to engineering environment via placement, shadowing, or coursework desirable.
• Interest in CAD/3D modelling or finite element software.

Responsibilities

• Assist tunnel, shaft, and cavern designs using various construction methods.
• Support feasibility studies and detailed/design tasks with safe, constructible solutions.
• Review technical data to support engineering decisions.
• Contribute to problem-solving and design solutions under supervision.
• Participate in site visits to observe construction methods and gather project information.
• Collaborate with engineers across disciplines to deliver integrated solutions.
• Apply health and safety practices on site and in the office.
