Job summary

AECOM is seeking a Graduate Tunnelling and Underground Structures Engineer in Birmingham with a 2027 start. You will join a multi-disciplinary global team on major tunnelling projects, contributing to feasibility, design, and delivery across a range of environments.

The programme includes development support, mentoring, and opportunities to progress toward professional accreditation while operating within a hybrid work model.

Qualifications

• Degree in Civil or Civil & Structural Engineering with 2:1 or above (or equivalent).
• MSc/MEng in Civil/Geotechnical/Tunnelling Engineering would be an advantage.
• Any construction experience gained through the degree would be advantageous.
• Willing to work towards ICE or IStructE professional qualification.

Responsibilities

• Work on a range of tunnelling and underground structures projects.
• Apply civil, structural and geotechnical knowledge from degree.
• Conduct feasibility studies and optioneerings from preliminary to detailed design.
• Design tunnels, shafts and caverns in hard and soft ground using various methods.
• Identify and solve complex engineering problems with FE software and empirical methods.
• Potential to lead small projects or project elements and support team members.
• Help expand business through client management and networking.
